We teach core problem-solving, communication, stress management and other skills that can be used by grandparents, parents and teens to address any part of the “wellness puzzle.”  (See illustration at right).

Programs are structured to appeal to every type of learner.

To assure success, learning collaboratives are created where  participants are encouraged to learn from each other, and integrate new behaviors into the life of their family, organization and community.

Dr. Tom DeLoughry, Ed.D.  is the principal author and director of Caring Teams.   His interest in the connection between the mind, body and Spirit is evidenced by his career in which he served as:

  • Director of drug abuse and adolescent services in child psychiatry at Buffalo Children’s  Hospital
  • Director of wellness and disease management at Independent Health, a large managed care organization
  • Assistant Director of Continuing Medical Education in Family Medicine at the School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo
  • Director of the Center of Renewal, a Franciscan retreat center at Stella Niagara, NY

For the past thirty years Dr. DeLoughry has served as Executive Director of the Center  for Health Management which creates, implements and evaluates programs to help the whole person, the whole family, the whole organization and the whole community.

Kathy DeLoughry, M.S., serves as Training Director for the Center for Health Management.  She has collaborated on the development of each of the Being Your Best programs (e.g., Never Too Old; Living Well; Forgiving Yourself Others and God).  Her experience includes:

  • classroom teacher and Technology Integrator in the Kenmore School System;
  • a supervisory faculty member in the the Department of Education at the State University College of New York at Buffalo
  • stress management trainer for New York State United Teachers
  • yoga instructor for adults, teens and children

Dr. Tom  DeLoughry  is the author of Spirituality and Eldercare, a chapter in a Templeton Press textbook, Spiritual Dimensions of Nursing, edited by Harold Koenig and Verna Carson.  This recounts the collaboration with HANCI and the Niagara County Office for the Aging that led to the development of Being Your Best as a whole person, whole organization and whole community program.

He is the creator of the American Lung Association’s national program for emphysema and chronic bronchitis, Help Patients To Better Breathing; the CBS HealthWatch.com feature series, The Managed Care Guide and Never Too Old To Be Well, a multi-media program (booklet, flyers, video DVD, computer CD) for the whole family, the whole organization and the whole community which has been adopted as an official elder care program in two Western New York counties.

He has a masters in Rehabilitation Counseling and a doctorate (Ed.D.) in health education and behavior from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
